A Sprue Cutter is a tool used to cut tapered openings in your molding sand to use for pouring in molten metal. The sprue cutter forms a clean, tight, tapered opening that connects to your runner or gate. It can also be used to cut risers.
The #6905 sprue cutter is:
Length: 8-1/4"
Top Outer Diameter: 1-3/8"
Bottom Outer Diameter: 15/16"
Material Thickness: .038"
The #6907 sprue cutter is:
Length: 12-1/4"
Top Outer Diameter: 2-1/4"
Bottom Outer Diameter: 1-1/4"
Material Thickness: .038"
Both have a nicely rolled top edge so you can push the cutter into the sand comfortably.
After ramming up both the cope and drag with molding sand the sprue cutter is pressed into the sand to cut a path thru the cope into your mold. Then the mold is opened, and gates or runners are cut to connect your mold cavity to the sprue channel. The sprue cutter can be pressed in farther than the parting line to create a catch basin in the drag half to stop sand that might get washed off during pouring from entering the mold cavity.
